Hockey Politics 12 November 2013 "Government should referee and not own the teams because that is the conflict of interest." paraphrasing from a segment i just saw on CBC... well, not quiet. Unlike the private sector, which is concerned with what the customers want and the bottom line, the government, in philosophical principal, should, must, and does control the critical infrastructure which was invested in and created by the public domain precisely because it was necessitated by the existing critical needs. In the hockey game metaphor the government could own a team if it really wanted to, again the emphasis on the *want* here, then may the best team win in the free from cheating game, all fun and games until somebody gets hurt, however, the government also operates the stadium and the roads leading to it, the electric power, security, and other critical costs essential for the "free market economy" game to be played by the human-citizen-corporate entities without added confusion in the priorities, or requiring the private sector to administer societal critical needs meanwhile the elected governments are wastefully running around trying to figure out what the people want for heavens sake! To summarize, it is very simple: The governments and public sector focus on the needs and the business and private sector on the wants. Problem solved. Well, philosophical at least.
