Plunderpalooza Festival of Cultural Appropriation and Intellectual Property Freedom. Idiosyntactix Strategic Arts & Sciences Alliance (1997) i have played escape from noise i remember in the 90's on pirate radio.... :) in 97 Idiosyntactix, Dima aka Dmytri Kleiner and i with friends, brought Mark Hosler to perform and debate at the Plunderpalooza1* festival, a three day extravaganza included a debate held at the InterAccess gallery, at 401 Richmond Street West at a time, between David A. Basskin president of the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Limited (CRRA), representing over 30 thousand labels, vs, on the side of the open expression, the right for plundering (aka utilize the original source to derive something else), and the public domain at large: Mark Hosler from Negativland, John Oswald from Plunderphonics,2* Oliver Girling, Kathleen Maitland Carter. then second day screening Sonic Outlaws3* by Craig Baldwin at the Bloor Cinema, and culminating at the Lee's Palace concert, attended by none other than David Bowie himself with an entourage of course, and featuring performances by Sucking Chest Wound (Bruce Becker)*4, Monty Cantsin Amen, Mark Hosler, John Oswald5*, Sook-Yin Lee. The Rust Brothers, Philip Strong, The One Armed Bandit, Cirque Samsara, Victor Warlord, Michael Philip Wojewoda, with video works by Myfanwy Ashmore, Todd Graham, and others. also additional audio atmospherics by DJ Saint Blameless & DJ OxO (Marc Ex). with the contributing artists include: Alexander Braun, John Marriott, Anna Melnikoff, Princess Superstar, Mark Gunderson. The event was also broadcasted on the internet and pirate radio (fm), sponsored by Idiosyntactix, it cost us $4,000 to put it on and we made back, after all said and done, $4,100, making $100 profit. :) Check out the cool photos by Billy Warhol and the partypix website i have design for him, and the event, at a time.*6 It was much fun and the best concert i have helped to produce and have witnessed ever! It was awesome, and the New Music, and all media were there, and we had pre and after parties also with the pirate radio happening and drinks. Good times. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTWCkE8nyTY * 1 - http://archive.groovy.net/plunderpalooza/ (website designed by me) * 2 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plunderphonics * 3 - https://vimeo.com/81822442 * 4 - https://www.facebook.com/groups/2465451110/ * 5 - https://www.facebook.com/pages/John-Oswald/250479951689629 * 6 - http://archive.groovy.net/partypix/images/music/plunder/palooza97.html
